Which level of sedation is right for you?
Mild nerves usually respond well to nitrous oxide, which lifts within minutes of the mask coming off. Moderate anxiety, a strong gag reflex or long appointments are better suited to oral sedation. For surgical work or severe phobia, deeper sedation keeps you comfortable from start to finish.
What to expect on the day
We review your health history, arrange a driver if needed, and ask you to fast if your sedation level requires it. During treatment we monitor your oxygen and heart rate continuously. Afterward you rest until you’re steady, and we send written post-op instructions home with your driver.
Comfort beyond sedation
Sedation is only part of it. Numbing is done slowly and thoroughly, you set a stop signal you can use anytime, and we explain each step before it happens. Many patients find that after one sedated visit, routine care no longer requires it.
Frequently asked questions
Will I be asleep?
With nitrous oxide you stay awake but deeply relaxed. Oral and IV sedation put most patients in a twilight state — you can respond, but you’ll remember very little of the appointment.
Is sedation safe?
Yes, when it’s properly screened and monitored. We review your medical history and medications, monitor vitals throughout, and choose the lightest level of sedation that keeps you comfortable.
Can I drive home?
After nitrous oxide, yes — it wears off within minutes. Oral and IV sedation require a driver and a quiet afternoon at home.
Can I combine sedation with other treatment?
Absolutely. Many patients combine several procedures into one sedated visit — implants, extractions, crowns and fillings — so years of postponed work get finished at once.
